Support For CWU Proposed Health And Safety Issues For The 2015 Labour Party Manifesto

The CWU's “Protect Health and Safety Campaign”, has already gleaned support From Labour MPs. That is in fact even before a meeting with Labour Party Shadow Health and Safety Minister, Stephen Timms MP!

CWU National Health, Safety & Environment Officer Dave Joyce has intensified pressure on the Labour Party, in pursuance of CWU Conference Policies to firm up their position on Health and Safety at work and give firm Manifesto commitments.

Pic: Dave JoyceFurther to his previously reported letter to CWU Branches (LTB485/14), the Health, Safety & Environment Department has been pursuing the instructions contained in Motions 107(2010), 84(2011), 90(2012),  92(2012), 91(2013), 114(2014), carried in the Health, Safety and Environment section at CWU General Conference.

Dave said

“We have presented a CWU Proposed Health and Safety List for the 2015 Labour Party Manifesto which we believe that if implemented this Manifesto list would have a huge Impact on reducing the toll of death, injury and illness that is still an everyday part of working life for so many working people in the UK.”

Dave Joyce who is also a member of the TUC’s Union Health and Safety Specialist Committee has been pursuing improved health and safety policies through the TUC and was involved in developing the TUC Health and Safety Manifesto and has been involved as part of a TUC delegation in talks with the Labour Party.

The CWU NEC Health, Safety and Environment Committee has thanked all those CWU Safety Reps, Branches and Regions that responded to LTB 485/14 by lobbying Labour MPs to register their support for the CWU Health and Safety Labour Manifesto list.

Support across the Country from Labour MPs has been fantastic with letters of support continuing to be sent to the Shadow Health and Safety Minister Stephen Timms MP, supporting the CWU.

Stephen Timms MP has responded by contacting the CWU Health, Safety & Environment Department to arrange a meeting with Dave Joyce at Westminster to discuss the CWU list of Health and Safety Manifesto suggestions and a date and time has been fixed.

A selection of supporting letters from Labour MPs can be downloaded in PDF fomat here

Dave urged Safety Reps, Branches and Regions to continue to lobby MPs, SMPs, MLAs, Councillors to support the CWU and write to Stephen Timms.
